A man sits a little apart, observing a group of people who, themselves, are observing or participating in a game. He looks at them but his knees are pointed away, so there is the conflict of two directions, and perhaps two desires. As I’ve said in other comments, we are never just separate from other people and things. In how many ways does the composition of this photograph try to tell us that?
