As much as people can feel the unknown is unfriendly and holds unpleasant things in store for us, we also want very much to feel that what we don't know may actually be on our side. In one photograph, a little girl enters a dark tunnel. She crouches and moves forward, cautious and brave, at once.  In another, the unknown takes a more personal form as a little boy reaches for flowers offered him by the hand of someone we cannot see. His head is thoughtfully tilted, a pinky delicately extended. I admire and want to emulate them.
